July 20th Sunday morning. Walk to Holystone.
Guided Walk to Holystone North Wood NWT reserve, to view
Ancient and Veteran trees. LIMITED NUMBER 15max. Email to book. Holystone North Wood is likely to be our nearest and most accessible ancient wood. It is a small 15 hectare, upland Sessile Oak wood and as such is relatively rare for Northumberland. Many of the oaks have previously been coppiced (the wood having last been worked about 100 years ago) with the trees in the main being between 130 to 180 years old with a few older specimens. In addition there is Birch, Rowan and Holly. The field layer is typical of northern acidic oak woodland on dry sandy soils.Holystone North Wood is likely to be our nearest and most accessible ancient wood.
